IPL AUCTION REVIEW Ft. PBKS, RR, LSG, RCB & SRH

Indian Premier League 2024 is few weeks away and the anticipation among fans is sky high at this point of time majorly with a hope to overcome the heartbreak of 19th November 2023 as well as 11th February 2024. Things gone are gone, and with this, its time to move ahead in anticipation of the biggest sporting league of the world, the Indian Premier League. IPL is set to commence in the month of March 2024, and the fans favourites will soon be back in action to entertain the crowd. With the IPL Auction done and dusted, let us go through each and every team’s purchases in the auction as well as the balance of their squad for the forthcoming season.

  • PBKS rope in Harshal Patel to strengthen Bowling Arsenal –

Punjab Kings, arguably one of the best bowling attacks in IPL 2024, have quite a few gun names at their disposal which include Sam Curran, Arshdeep Singh, Kagiso Rabada and now Harshal Patel in their Pace battery. Their batting line-up is more or less similar to the previous season, with Johnny Bairstow expected to return after missing out on the last season. Rilee Rossouw and Chris Woakes are couple of big names joining the Kings den this season.

  • Can Rowman Powell be the Royals missing Jigsaw-Puzzle piece?

The Number-7 conundrum has been haunting the Rajasthan Royals for the last few seasons now. With Jason Holder not living up to the expectations last season, the Royals have opted for his West Indian counterpart, Rowman Powell to fill in that slot for the upcoming season. Apart from Powell, hard-hitting allrounder, Tom Kohler-Cadmore and South African pace-sensation Nandre Burger have joined the Royals Camp as notable purchases.

  • Pat Cummins, Travis Head headline Sunrisers stellar day out –

The Sunrisers Hyderabad have packed their squad with 8 top overseas players, all of whom having the potential of being a first-eleven pick. Pat Cummins, brought in for a whopping 20.5 crores, has expectedly taken over the captaincy reigns from Aiden Markram and thus becomes an automatic pick in the playing eleven. What is to be seen now is how team SRH fills in the remaining 3 overseas slots with as many as 7 stars, namely, Aiden Markram, Travis Head, Wanindu Hasaranga, Glenn Philips, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Heinrich Klassen and Marco Jansen waiting in the wings. A happy-headache is expected for Pat Cummins, but the fact that “Big Foreign players don’t like sitting on the bench for long,” howers around.

  • LSG brush up bench-strength with value picks –

The Lucknow Super Giants had a comparatively quite auction, with them having a fairly settled unit at their disposal. Ashton Turner, David Willey, Arshin Kulkarni and Shivam Mavi highlight the Super Giants purchases on the auction table.

  • Old problems left unsolved as RCB turn to batters yet again to deliver –

With a wide range of top bowlers available at the auction, the Royal Challengers Bangalore have yet again failed to assemble a strong bowling unit, needed at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Though the Challengers have acquired the services of Tom Curran, Alzarri Joseph, Lockie Ferguson and the retained Reece Topley, they will struggle to fit in even two of the four names mentioned in their starting eleven with Faf Du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green being sure starters. The only Indian pacer picked, who can slot in the eleven, is Yash Dayal. It is in all likelihood that the Challengers will have to yet again turn to their batters to deliver the knock-out punch for them.
