IPL AUCTION REVIEW Ft. MI, CSK, KKR, GT & DC

Indian Premier League 2024 is few weeks away and the anticipation among fans is sky high at this point of time majorly with a hope to overcome the heartbreak of 19th November 2023 as well as 11th February 2024. Things gone are gone, and with this, its time to move ahead in anticipation of the biggest sporting league of the world, the Indian Premier League. IPL is set to commence in the month of March 2024, and the fans favourites will soon be back in action to entertain the crowd. With the IPL Auction done and dusted, let us go through each and every team’s purchases in the auction as well as the balance of their squad for the forthcoming season.

  • Amidst captaincy controversies, MI get value picks!

Keeping aside the controversy surrounding Hardik Pandya’s return to his former franchise and subsequently being named as their Captain for the upcoming season, replacing Rohit Sharma, Team Mumbai Indians have managed to assemble a well-balanced unit after acquiring certain value players including the Proteas-sensation Gerald Coetzee and Sri-Lankan Dilshan Madhushanka. They already had a strong batting line-up and Hardik’s inclusion only strengthens it further, but what would grab eyeballs for them this season would be the Trio of Bumrah, Madhushanka and Coetzee operating in tandem with the ball.

  • Super kings add Kiwi flavour to their winning recipe!

The Defending Champions have added more fire-power to their already assembled winning squad, with Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra being notable additions. The Super Kings have also brought back their former player, Shardul Thakur to the mix. Mustafizur Rehman also comes in as a value pick apart from the domestic talents. Dhoni’s men are well on course to have another title against their name, atleast with the squad that they have assembled pre-season.

  • Familiar Foes reunite amidst Starc splurge!

The return of Gautam Gambhir to the Eden Gardens wasn’t enough surprise by the Kolkata Knight Riders as they have managed to acquire Premium Pacer, Mitchell Starc for a staggering sum of Rs. 24.75 Crores as well their kitty. The addition of Starc bolsters their bowling unit which lacked a leader in the previous season. Englishman Gus Atkinson and Afghani mystery spinner Mujeeb Ur Rehman have also been brought in to boost their bowling stocks. However, the major highlight in the Knight’s den is the reunion of Gautam Gambhir with Manish Pandey, both of whom were the torchbearers in the Knights 2014 winning run, though in different capacities this while.

  • Titans pick Pace-sensation Spencer Johnson, but Shahrukh Khan’s arrival grab eyeballs!

Gujrat Titans, under a new Skipper, Shubman Gill, have roped in Aussie pace sensation Spencer Johnson for a huge sum of 10 crores to accompany Mohammad Shami and Rashid Khan in the bowling department. Talking about batting, they have managed to acquire Shahrukh Khan, renowned for his big-hitting and finishing abilities, to replace their former skipper, Hardik Pandya. Additionally, they have managed to get value picks in Umesh Yadav, Robin Minz, Kartik Tyagi and Afghani-Azmatullah Omarzai to balance their unit.

  • Harry Brook arrives in Delhi to bolster an already heavy batting line-up!

In what appears to be one of the strongest batting line-ups, assuming everyone is fit to play, Delhi Capitals, with Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant and now Harry Brook, have assembled a powerful top-5. They have even managed to secure decent back-ups with Shai Hope, Tristan Stubbs and Jhye Richardson along with domestic talents waiting in the wings.

The Auction review for Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Lucknow Super Giants, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad will be posted in the second part. Stay tuned!
